Celebrating Ten Years of Connecting Established Industry to Emerging Writing & Filmmaking Talent: MAY 2000 to MAY 2010
The BAFTA-supported initiative has connected scores of aspiring
British writers and filmmakers with established talent including Mike Newell, John Madden and David Parfitt.
This May, Rocliffe and their 8,000 members will celebrate a decade of events including New Film Forums and the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum.
With the aim of bringing the best and brightest aspiring filmmakers and writers to the attention of the established film and television industry at large, the forums have put the spotlight on new British talent such as BAFTA and Academy Award-winning director Andrea Arnold, and provided a springboard to success for young British talent including James Dormer, who has gone on to write episodes of UK TV dramas Spooks and The Fixer, Jack Thorne who won the Best British Newcomer award at the 2009 London Film Festival for The Scouting Book for Boys.
"The BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum is our longest running learning strand and a hugely important part of BAFTA’s public programme of events and online resources. Having your work showcased at a New Writing Forum is an invaluable opportunity for an aspiring writer - seeing their script come to life highlights both the potential and the flaws; the event exposes new talent to industry experts, generating future work opportunities for all the participants. I’m delighted to see the BAFTA Rocliffe partnership growing from strength to strength.”"
BAFTA Chief Executive Amanda Berry OBE
"Rocliffe is an exciting and energetic organisation, of
which we are proud to be Patrons. Nurturing talent is the most
important job in our industry today"
Alan Plater & Shirley Rubinstein
"The Rocliffe Forums are doing our job for us - it is great
for me to be patron of an organisation which supports the industry
in finding new writing and talent as well as creating a friendly
environment in which to network and develop"
Nik Powell, Scala Productions
"The Rocliffe Forums are fun and energetic events encouraging
a fundamental understanding of the importance of development
and collaboration. A strong script is the key to success - a
development workout in a script reading forum is a great benefit
to any writer" Michael Kuhn, Qwerty
Films
"Rocliffe provides the ideal opportunity for writers to
flex their muscles with a real audience. Sharing your work for
the first time with the outside world is a scary process but
Rocliffe gives an invaluable forum for this which is both sympathetic
and gently critical. Selected writers should relish such an
experience" Rebecca O Brien, Sixteen
